Pupil Premium Policy

Pupil Premium

The pupil premium is additional funding which is given to publicly funded schools in England (including mainstream and non-mainstream schools, such as special schools and pupil referral units)  to help ‘close-the-gap’ and raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils.

Children who are eligible for the pupil premium grant include those:

  • registered as eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years
  • who have been looked after for 1 day or more
  • Were adopted from care on or after 30 December 2005, or left care under:
    • a special guardianship order
    • a residence order

As schools are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for individual pupils, it is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent. However, schools are held accountable for how they have used the additional funding.
